Day 1

Arrive in Yerevan

Arrival in Yerevan. Transfer to the hotel. Hotel accommodation.

Day 2

Yereván City tour

Breakfast. Departure to Vagharshapat, the spiritual capital of Armenia, where the cathedral of Echmiadzín is located. Echmiadzín is the seat of the Supreme Patriarch of All Armenians. Echmiadzín Cathedral is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. On the way we will see the ruins of the cathedral of Zvartnóts that together with the archaeological territory around it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to Yerevan. Tour of the city of Yerevan, whose history dates from the s. VIII BC During the excursion we will see the Republic Square surrounded by beautiful emblematic buildings, the Opera and Ballet Theater, Mariscal Baghramián Avenue with National Assembly, Presidential Palace, diplomatic missions, Academy of Sciences, the Waterfall, which is a staircase that connects the Central part of the city with other neighborhoods, Cafesjian Sculpture Garden. Visit of Matenadarán – museum, deposit and institute of scientific research of more than 17 000 manuscripts in several languages. Visit of Tsitsernakaberd, memorial complex dedicated to the victims of the Armenian genocide of the year 1915. Night in Yerevan.

Day 3

Yerevan / Khor Virap / Arení / Noravank / Yerevan

Breakfast. Trip to the monastery of Khor Virap (“Deep Well”) (ss. IV-XVII). The monastery is at the foot of the biblical Mount Ararat. His story is closely related to the first Armenian patriarch Saint Gregory the Illuminator who was imprisoned here many years in a well before curing King Tiridates III of a mental condition. In 301 the king proclaimed Christianity as the state religion of Armenia. The well still exists and can be visited. We will continue to Arení, known for the quality of its wines, and we will have the tasting of the local wine at the “Arení” wine factory. Travel to the Noravank Monastery (“New Monastery”), a religious and cultural center of the 13th century with the church of the Holy Mother of God on two floors that is considered the last masterpiece of the Armenian architect Momik. Return to Yerevan. Night in Yerevan.

Day 4

Yerevan / Gueghard / Garní / Seván / Yerevan

Breakfast. Visit of the monastery of Gueghard (“the monastery of the Spear”), partially excavated in the adjacent mountain. It is named for the spear used to hurt the body of Christ on the cross. The cliffs surrounding the monastery are part of the Azat River gorge, and together with the monastery are included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. We will continue to the temple of Garní built in the 1st century A.D. It is the only pagan temple preserved in Armenia. The temple was dedicated to the sun god Mithras. Travel to Lake Seván (1900 meters above sea level), one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world. Return to Yerevan. Night in Yerevan.
